In the days of Samuel, neither the Philistines, nor even Eli the high priest, really knew the God of Israel. Confused by the noise of a victory shout (the Philistines) and by the noise of calamity (Eli), when the Lord uttered His voice (thunder) neither the Philistines nor Israel was in any doubt concerning Who it was. In these days we need to have the same assurance of His voice.
